MCTP (Management Component Transport Protocol) is a
transport-independent protocol defined by the DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force).
It can operate over multiple physical layers such as PCIe,
I²C,
MIPI I3C,
SMBus,
UART, and Ethernet,
enabling management and monitoring of servers and embedded systems.
Ethernet over MCTP encapsulates Ethernet packets within the MCTP framework for data exchange and management communication between servers and management controllers.
This approach enables Ethernet packet transmission without requiring a traditional network protocol stack,
achieving a more streamlined and efficient system management architecture.
Acute Technology logic analyzers support decoding and display of MCTP and Ethernet over MCTP packets,
helping engineers clearly observe and analyze platform management protocol communications over the bus,
and quickly locate and resolve issues during the design or verification process.
